My Story

IMG_6541.jpeg

I am presently 71 years old and was first introduced to bird watching when I was 8 years old by the father of one of my childhood friends.  One of my fondest memories growing up was having an annual competition with my friend on who could record the most species for that year.  From this activity, I developed a great appreciation for nature and more specifically, my feathered friends.

In 2020, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, my sister and I both retired and moved to Charleston, SC.  Since the pandemic was still raging at the time, I was unable to go outside and enjoy my favorite activity.  Having never drawn anything before, I started drawing birds to occupy my time.  I immediately felt a reconnection and joy in doing this.  As a result, I decided to take my work one step further and share it with the public.  Thus, I created this website where people can view my work and purchase color reproductions of my original drawings.

However, this site was set up not only to show my appreciation for the beloved winged creatures, but to also spread public awareness of their plight.  Due to suburban sprawl and development of the past several decades, much of their habitat has diminished.  Many of the breeding grounds for different species no longer exist.  Consequently, a growing number of species are in severe decline, especially the migratory song birds.  Birds that I remember growing up that were once plentiful are now rarely seen and sadly, the list of endangered or threatened species continues to grow.

In 2025, people started to send me photographs of their pets (dogs and cats) to draw.  So, I branched out (no pun intended) and began drawing original colored pencil renditions.  These make great gifts and create fond memories.

On this website, you will see my artwork along with pricing.

I look forward to hearing from you.
